Labor Relations Officer

SEIU Healthcare is a union of over 60,000 members who are frontline healthcare workers in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and homecare agencies in communities throughout Ontario. As a Labor Relations Officer, you will play a crucial role in building healthy communities by providing a strong voice through collective bargaining, labor relations, and political action.
Key Responsibilities:- Effective administration of collective agreements, contact negotiations, grievances, and other matters related to the employment relationship between our members and their employer.
- Identifying and coaching member leaders to become more active and capable members of the union and to support our member education and mobilization programs.
- Planning, developing, and executing initiatives to encourage member-driven unit events, actions, and campaigns to resolve unit issues.
- Coaching stewards to lead various meetings and supporting SEIU Healthcare in early identification and resolution of unit issues.
- Facilitating and coordinating General Membership Meetings, Steward Meetings, Labour Management Meetings, Site Visits, and Departmental Meetings in assigned units.
- Leading collective bargaining for assigned units while working with the Research Department in accordance with established standards, procedures, and timelines.
- Analyzing and interpreting complex contract and legislative language.
- Resolving issues within units through interpretation and enforcement of contracts and related legislation.
- Working in collaboration with administrative support to ensure unit files, unit events, negotiation files, records, reports, and grievance collateral is entered in UnionWare.
- Facilitating attendance management and return to work meetings in assigned units.
- Ensuring required committees in assigned units have SEIU representation.
- Completing and submitting monthly unit status reports and monthly expense reports.
- Ensuring legal and other billing accurately reflects events as they occur and are submitted per policy.
- Managing and recording expenses made during regular business using a company credit card/gas card, in accordance with SEIU financial policies.
- Proficiency in languages other than English is an asset.
- IT skills is an asset.
- Ability to interpret collective agreement language and apply to specific situations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and UnionWare.
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent writing, and verbal skills.
- Building and maintaining trust relationships with all stakeholders.
- Work long hours, evenings, and weekends.
- Work hours will vary to meet the needs of the operation.
- Must be open and available to conduct site visits.
- Frequent use of telephone.
- Motor vehicle travel for long distances and on a frequent basis.
- Exposure to medical, healthcare, and office facilities.
