Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Forester - Operations Specialist to join our team at the Forestry and Peatlands Branch within the department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade, and Natural Resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Regional Forester in developing, implementing, and evaluating forest management plans, resource allocations, and forest renewal activities.
  • Participate in the development of Forest Management and Operations Plans, work program administration, and supervision within the Eastern Region.
  • Collaborate with other Eastern Region Department and Branch staff and programs to achieve departmental objectives.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Forestry or an equivalent combination of resource-related education, training, and experience in field forestry operations.
  • Experience planning, performing, supervising, and inspecting silvicultural activities and timber harvest operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with stakeholder groups and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritize workloads to meet strict deadlines.
  • Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including ArcGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS), with strong mapping skills.
  • Working knowledge of Forestry legislation and policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preparing annual reports, operating plans, and forest management plans.
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets.
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work overtime when needed and travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via truck, all-terrain vehicle, boat, or rotary or fixed-wing aircraft.

The candidate must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require moderate physical effort, such as carrying equipment over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions.
