The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly skilled Forestry Operations Specialist to join our team in the Forestry and Peatlands Branch. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting the Regional Forester in the development, implementation, and evaluation of forest management plans, resource allocations, and forest renewal activities.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement forest management plans, resource allocations, and forest renewal activities in accordance with government policies and regulations.
- Collaborate with other departmental staff and programs to achieve regional forestry goals and objectives.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of forestry operations teams, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and best practices.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor forestry operations and ensure adherence to government regulations.
- Prepare and present reports, plans, and other documentation to stakeholders, including government officials, industry partners, and the public.
- Post-secondary education in Forestry or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in forestry operations, including planning, performing, supervising, and inspecting silvicultural activities and timber harvest operations.
- Strong knowledge of forestry legislation, policy, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS), including ArcGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro.
- Experience preparing annual reports, operating plans, and forest management plans.
- Experience managing budgets and financial resources.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent travel to remote locations throughout the province. The successful candidate must be willing and able to work overtime, including evenings and weekends, and be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require moderate physical effort.
