Job Summary

The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly skilled Forester - Operations Specialist to join our team in the Forestry and Peatlands Branch. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong background in forestry operations, human resource management, and geographic information systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Regional Forester in the development, implementation, and evaluation of forest management plans, resource allocations, and forest renewal activities.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Forest Management and Operations Plans, work program administration, and supervision within the Eastern Region.
  • Collaborate with other Eastern Region Department and Branch staff and programs to achieve departmental objectives.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Forestry or an equivalent combination of resource-related education, training, and experience in field forestry operations.
  • Experience planning, performing, supervising, and inspecting silvicultural activities and timber harvest operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with stakeholder groups and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritize workloads to meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
  • Working knowledge of Forestry legislation and policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preparing annual reports, operating plans, and forest management plans.
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets.
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities.
