Position Overview
The Lower Mainland Community Director is a key role focused on unifying and integrating teen engagement efforts in the Lower Mainland (Metro Vancouver). The Director will bring added capacity and leadership to the Lower Mainland's youth portfolio by providing support to the currently active Conservative congregations of Beth Israel, Beth Tikvah and Har El.
Key Responsibilities
Programming and Collaboration
Support an inclusive approach to teen engagement at all age levels, including USY engagement through new engagement initiatives.
Participate in the overall plan to increase membership numbers and participation.
Build relationships and partnership opportunities with local professionals, Conservative congregations and other Jewish organizations.
Assist and lead chapter, multi-chapter and city-wide events.
Promote and recruit for all Lower Mainland USY programs.
Participate in communal opportunities that engage local youth directors and/or teens.
Leadership Development
Recruit, train, empower and mentor teen leaders to take active roles within the USY community.
Support and develop teen leaders within the Lower Mainland and empower them to take ownership of their programming events.
Stay current on issues and emerging trends impacting Jewish teens and integrate these into leadership development opportunities.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Jewish Education, Jewish Studies or similar field preferred.
2 to 5 years or more relevant work experience.
Passion for USY's mission and commitment to empowering Jewish teens.
Significant knowledge of youth development, teen issues and emerging trends, teen engagement and experiential Jewish education.
Experience in immersive Jewish education.
Strong understanding of Jewish youth culture and experience.
Knowledge of Jewish traditions; demonstrated commitment to Conservative Judaism living and/or interest in learning.
Demonstrated people-management and coaching, including conflict management skills.
Excellent relationship-building, leadership and facilitation skills.
Excellent communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience with budget planning and tracking.
Knowledge of how to successfully engage teens on social media platforms preferred.
Proficient in Google Workspace; knowledge of CRMs and other customer platforms preferred; ability to learn online systems and programs quickly; and proficient with video conferencing technologies.
Work Environment
Monday through Friday; requires attendance at evening meetings and weekend programs and conventions as needed.
Travel:
Requires travel for site visits, programs, conventions and other events as needed.
Compensation
$48,000 - $53,000 CAD; benefits include extended medical and dental coverage.
