The Work

The Senior Manager, Commercial Portfolio Management will be a key member of the Commercial Credit team, reporting directly to the Senior Manager. The incumbent will oversee mentoring and guidance for team members while ensuring efficient operations, providing exceptional service. Key responsibilities include prudent oversight of the BES portfolio, thorough assessment of credit risk, adherence to established policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Ensure alignment with company policies and procedures, submitting recommendations for approval to senior management based on approved delegations of authority.
  • Provide support, guidance, and mentorship to the Mortgage Coordinator, resolving day-to-day challenges, assessing training needs, and ensuring staff members can perform their duties effectively.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal colleagues and external contacts to deliver optimal service to clients.
  • Promote organic growth within the business, targeting retention objectives for BES maturities.
  • Evaluate credit risk thoroughly and adhere to the Bank's risk appetite and General Investment and Lending Policy by achieving minimum completion ratios and timeline thresholds on annual reviews.
  • Support timely completion of regular reporting for senior levels of management, including maturities, annual reviews, etc.
  • Maintain pipeline workflow to meet production and service metrics within prescribed timelines.
  • Offer valuable, timely feedback on team member performance to management.
  • Empower the professional growth of the Commercial Coordinator, creating and executing development plans when necessary.
  • The incumbent is responsible for managing, organizing, training, and evaluating contract employees, interns, LDP Associates, and job shadowing employees assigned to the department.
  • Review Compliance and QA audits promptly, compile underwriter feedback on deficiencies, submit for review, and record final results on the audit tracker.
  • Assist in department projects or company initiatives as needed.


About You
    • A strong leader with excellent coaching skills.
    • Post-secondary education (diploma/degree) in business or finance preferred.
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial real estate lending.
    • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to senior management.
    • Sound technical knowledge of commercial lending, financial statement analysis, and factors influencing the Canadian commercial lending environment.
    • A detail-oriented individual with high integrity.
    • Proven service excellence in the field.
    • Familiarity with AML/ATF regulations and Corporate/Legal documentation for commercial real estate in multiple jurisdictions across Canada.
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and perform well in a high-volume, high-intensity setting.
    • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
    • Proficient in MS Office (primarily Word and Excel).
    • Bilingualism is an asset.


Job Complexity / Thinking Challenges:
    • This position requires self-motivation, prioritization of workflow, and sound lending approval/recommendation decisions without compromising credit risk. The incumbent should be prepared to manage complex files, employing creative thinking and proactive problem-solving. Following corporate policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, the incumbent will properly review files and rationalize approval/recommendation decisions. In addition to exercising professional judgment, strong problem-solving skills regarding AML/ATF risk and related documentation are required, as the incumbent will prepare and recommend risk mitigation actions to the Business Unit Compliance Officer and/or the Compliance Department. The incumbent will also encounter common day-to-day challenges associated with supervising and mentoring individuals.
