Supporting the Success of Newcomer Youth

We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as a Youth Integration Specialist. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting the successful integration of newcomer youth into Canadian society.

About the Position
  • This is a summer internship opportunity that will provide you with hands-on experience working with immigrant and refugee youth.
  • You will be responsible for designing and delivering educational and recreational activities that promote cultural awareness, social skills, and community engagement.
  • You will work closely with our staff to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
Main Responsibilities:
  1. Program Planning and Delivery: Assist in planning and delivering summer programs for newcomer youth, including Newcomer Youth Centre and Newcomer Orientation Week (NOW) summer programs.
  2. Youth Support and Mentorship: Provide individualized support and mentorship to newcomer youth, helping them to navigate their new surroundings and access community resources.
  3. Culture and Community Building: Facilitate activities and workshops that promote cultural awareness, social skills, and community engagement among newcomer youth.
  4. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with YOCISO staff to ensure seamless program delivery and effective communication with participants and stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • A post-secondary student in good standing, intending to return to school full-time in the next academic year.
  • Enrolled in a social sciences or humanities-related field.
  • Experience working with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong facilitation, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
