Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Licensing Officer - Child Care to join their Community Care Facilities Licensing team in Vancouver, BC. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of children in care by conducting inspections, investigations, and providing guidance to facility operators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and assessments of child day care facilities to ensure compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act and regulations.
  • Investigate complaints and reportable incidents in facilities, and provide recommendations for corrective action.
  • Provide information, guidance, and consultation to facility operators, the public, and other stakeholders on related matters.
  • Interpret and explain applicable requirements and provisions of the Act and regulations to promote quality care in child care facilities.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Certificate or Diploma in a relevant discipline, supplemented by at least three years of recent, related experience managing a child care program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A valid BC Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate.
  • A valid BC Driver's License, with local area travel requiring the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge and Abilities

You will possess:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of provincial acts and regulations related to child care facilities licensing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the provision of quality care within child care facilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of quality assurance/quality improvement.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in the inspection and assessment of child care facilities and programs.
  • Ability to investigate complaints, identify infractions and violations, and make recommendations regarding corrective action.
