About the Role

The Second Year Apprentice Welder will be a key member of our Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) team, reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Fabrication department. As a skilled welder, you will use a variety of welding processes and tools to produce precision parts and construct Powell Canada products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble structural steel and sheet metal products to meet dimensional specifications.
  • Operate metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, and shape sheet metal.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure products meet cosmetic and appearance specifications.
  • Conduct light maintenance on welding and cutting equipment, as well as small power tools and fume extractors.
  • Participate in Powell's ongoing Safety Training and promote a safety culture.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to achieve manufacturing goals.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and completion of 2nd year in a Welding program.
  • Registered Apprentice with AIT (or other provincial programs).
  • CWB Certification is considered an asset, preferably FCAW S-classification all position.
  • Structural steel fabrication experience is an asset.
  • Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing and Execution System) is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Wear personal protective equipment at all times when required.
  • Work from various types of ladders and around loud machinery.

Physical Requirements

  • Maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling.
  • Bend, lift, and move objects up to 50lbs.
  • Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
