About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Real Estate Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for negotiating with property owners and their legal representatives to acquire property required by the Ministry of Transportation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiate with property owners and/or their legal representatives to acquire property required by the Ministry of Transportation.
  • Prepare written recommendations regarding opinions on the valuation of property, including partial takings, compensation due to impact, and other related matters.
  • Make recommendations concerning acquisitions, expropriation, land management, and other transactions.
  • Recommend and implement expropriation proceedings according to applicable legislation and ministry policy.
  • Carry out property management activities, including disposing of surplus land, leasing, and coordinating property maintenance repairs.
  • Prepare and/or review detailed property appraisal reports for various types of land uses, including partial takings, property impact studies, and estimating compensation for property rights being acquired.
  • Work in a team environment with engineering staff, legal services, consultants, and supervisors to ensure deadlines are met for the acquisition and management of property.
  • Procure and manage consultants and contractors to carry out services on behalf of the Ministry.
Requirements
  • A valid G driver's license or equivalent is required.
  • Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of property appraisal reports, agreements, negotiations, disposal, and land management activities.
  • Experience in acquiring, managing, and disposing of property rights for public purposes.
  • Expertise in real estate matters of a technical nature, including review and interpretation of land use planning, legal agreements, engineering drawings, surveys, plans, appraisal reports, and negotiations skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the Expropriations Act and knowledge of other relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate with property owners and/or their legal representatives.
  • Business skills, including the ability to read and interpret legal descriptions, survey plans, and engineering drawings, and to prepare detailed reports and other correspondence.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and database applications.
