About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operations Specialist to join our team at Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT), a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining heavy equipment, including crawlers, to process scrap metals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment, including crawlers, to process scrap metals.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and maintain a clean working environment.
  • Load and unload materials from storage areas, docks, delivery vehicles, or containers using equipment such as magnets and grapplers.
  • Sort recycled materials and metals to separate high-grade metals and remove non-conforming metals.
  • Perform physical labor tasks using standard hand tools, torches, banders, saws, and wire snips.
  • Conduct daily inspections on equipment and identify scrap metal grades and types.
  • Position trailers and containers around the yard and empty gaylord boxes as required.
  • Assist mechanics with equipment maintenance and interact with customers or drivers to direct or assist them.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an environment exposed to dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate, and weather changes.
