Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Specialist to join our team at PHSA. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality care to patients with complex mental health and substance use challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to patients, including assessing their needs, developing care plans, and implementing interventions to promote their physical and emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and ensure seamless transitions between services.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' mental health and substance use challenges, and develop individualized treatment plans to address their unique needs.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families to promote healthy coping mechanisms and improve overall well-being.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One (1) year of recent experience working in a forensic or acute psychiatric hospital setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current and updated knowledge of changes and developments in the practice of psychiatric nursing and of applicable Federal and Provincial legislation.
  • Broad knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral, social emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues in adults.
  • Demonstrated organizational, facilitation, decision making and leadership skills.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
