About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Partner to join our Human Resources team. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the successful candidate will collaborate with all levels of employees to provide best practice knowledge and support in their field. This includes ensuring efficient and consistent compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements, Employment Agreements, policies, and legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Counsel and assist clients on issues that impact culture, including providing training and interpretation on matters related to legislation, company policies, and employee conduct rules.
  • Partner with client groups on various processes, such as job design, organizational structure, and lines of sequence.
  • Provide coaching and guidance on conflict resolution, attendance management, goal setting, performance management, succession planning, talent management, organizational change, and discipline.
  • Assist in facilitating positive Labour Relations between the Company and Unions, providing counsel to Managers and Supervisors on issues related to the grievance process and its administration.
  • Conduct investigations, summarize findings, and recommend solutions.
  • Prepare for and attend arbitration cases as required.
  • Assist with contract negotiations by researching issues and providing relevant information and support.
  • Lead recruitment and onboarding efforts to source quality individuals to support Algoma's short, medium, and long-term needs.
  • Lead/participate on special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • University degree or College diploma in HR or Business Administration, or equivalent work experience.
  • HR/LR experience in a unionized industrial/manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Labour/Employment legislation.
  • HR experience interpreting and advising on Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated strong time management skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of discretion.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with improving systems and processes.
  • Project management skills.
  • Experience with MS Excel and PowerPoint, SAP.
