Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Fuels Safety Engineering Manager to join our team at the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA). As a key member of our organization, you will play a pivotal role in driving consistency across engineering reviews and ensuring exceptional customer service delivery.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional with a strong background in fuels safety engineering to lead our team's efforts in adopting new Codes and creating Director's orders. You will be responsible for proactively identifying areas where Codes need amendment or adoption, leading the adoption process, and providing resolutions on elevated issues that may not fall under clear policies or standards.

You will promote public safety by effectively leading the delivery of Fuels Safety Engineering Services and provide leadership on modernization and transformational initiatives to ensure the achievement of our corporate vision of becoming an Outcome-Based Regulator (OBR).

Main Responsibilities
  • Drive consistency across how engineering reviews are carried out across the program and ensure high-level customer service delivery.
  • Proactively identify Codes that are in need of amendment and adoption using data and causes of incidents.
  • Lead the adoption of new Codes and creation of Director's orders.
  • Provide resolutions on elevated issues that may not fall under clear policies or standards.
  • Promote public safety by effectively leading the delivery of Fuels Safety Engineering Services.
  • Review, strategize, and lead consultations to address technical responses to issues and questions raised by customers and external stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership on modernization and transformational initiatives to ensure achievement of corporate vision of becoming an OBR.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • An engineering degree from an accredited university.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification as an asset.
  • A minimum of 5 years of past leadership experience in coaching, mentoring, and development of others, managing specialized teams, team development and integration, technical training, and teaching.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical paper development and presentations, public relations/public speaking.
  • Technical knowledge preferably in fuels-related fields and the ability to apply and enforce knowledge related to TSS Act, regulations, CSA, ULC, UL, NFPA, and ASME codes and standards, OHS Act.
  • Risk assessment and process applications such as hazard identification, assessment, and mitigation.
