Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining manufacturing processes, developing work instructions, and ensuring the quality of our products.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manufacturing Process Development: Create and maintain variant and program-specific manufacturing bills of material (MBOM) and bill of processes (BOPs).
  2. Work Instruction Development: Produce and validate detailed work instructions to meet manufacturing and customer support process requirements.
  3. Oracle Routing and Standard Hour Estimates: Develop and maintain Oracle routings and standard hour estimates to align with manufacturing and customer support work instructions.
  4. Design Review Participation: Participate in design review meetings to interpret design requirements for processing work instructions.
  5. Appurtenance Change Notice Execution: Execute appurtenance change notices into detailed work instructions.
  6. Tooling Development: Conceptualize, define, and request tooling based on geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing and ergonomic requirements.
  7. Quality Deviation Investigation: Investigate and support the resolution of quality deviations, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  8. Design Change Implementation: Implement all necessary design changes into manufacturing engineering products.
  9. Production Support: Support initial start-up production processes, including manufacturing validation build (MVB), production launch process (PLP), and first piece inspection (FPI).
  10. Process Improvement: Assess and implement changes identified as part of initial start-up process.
  11. Manufacturing Engineering Support: Provide consistent, timely, and accurate manufacturing engineering support to the shop floor.
  12. Process Effectiveness Monitoring: Monitor process effectiveness and record issues in Maximo database.
Requirements
  1. Education: University degree or college diploma in manufacturing/mechanical engineering, or skilled trades license with 3+ years equivalent experience.
  2. Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience as a manufacturing engineering technologist for a heavy equipment manufacturer.
  3. Skills: Goal-oriented with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Physical Requirements: Must be able to meet anthropometrical size restrictions for confined space.
  5. Travel: Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. GD&T and Industry 4.0 Knowledge: Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T) and knowledge of industry 4.0 initiatives (manufacturing execution system, paperless, etc).
  2. Software Skills: Working knowledge of Team Center, Oracle, and Maximo.
  3. Unionized Environment Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience working with shop floor employees in a unionized environment.
