Vancouver Community College (VCC) is a leader in innovative post-secondary learning, with over 55 years of experience in experiential education.

We are seeking an Academic Facilitator in Chemistry to join our team. This position involves teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools.

The successful candidate will develop curriculum, prepare teaching materials, and provide assessments of students' progress.

They will also ensure the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment, and other inventories.

This role requires upholding the College's policies and procedures, participating in meetings and events, and consulting with other College departments.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments, and independent or group projects.
  • Develop curriculum and prepare teaching materials and outlines for courses, including audio-visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
  • Prepare, administer, and mark papers, tests, exams, and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students' progress. Provide detailed feedback on student performance.
  • Assist and support students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
  • Provide individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
  • Maintain effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software, and tools.
  • Arrange for and supervise independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work, or hands-on training.
  • Adhere to VCC policies and procedures, including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
  • Participate in departmental and college meetings and events. Consult with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.
Requirements:
  • A Master's degree in Science, Applied Science, or Education. If the Master's is in Education, the Bachelor's degree must be in Science or Applied Science. Appropriate experience in lieu of a Master's is acceptable.
  • One year of relevant science or related teaching experience, preferably with adults.
  • If applying to teach in a science discipline outside of the major, sufficient relevant university or work experience in that discipline.
  • Education and/or teaching experience within the last 5 years.
  • Completion of the Provincial Instructor's Diploma or equivalent, in a timely fashion after employment commences.
  • Evidence of commitment to team and personal professional growth.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
