Job Title: Academic Instructor in ChemistryAbout the Role

This position involves teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The successful candidate will develop curriculum, prepare teaching materials, and provide assessments of students' progress. They will also be responsible for upholding the College's policies and procedures and participating in meetings and events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teaching students using lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments, and independent or group projects.
  • Developing curriculum and preparing teaching materials and outlines for courses, including audio-visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
  • Preparing, administering, and marking papers, tests, exams, and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students' progress. Providing detailed feedback on student performance.
  • Assisting and providing support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
  • Maintaining effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software, and tools.
  • Arranging for and supervising independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work, or hands-on training.
  • Adhering to VCC policies and procedures, including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
  • Participating in departmental and college meetings and events. Consulting with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.
Requirements
  • A Master's degree in chemistry from an accredited institution.
  • One or more years of relevant science or related teaching experience, preferably with adults.
  • Education and/or teaching experience within the last 5 years.
  • Completion of the Provincial Instructor's Diploma or equivalent, in a timely fashion after employment commences.
  • Dedication to principles of adult education.
  • Evidence of commitment to team and personal professional growth.
Estimated Salary Range:

$80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
