Job Overview

The Indigenous Peer Support Program Coordinator is a critical role that supports the provision of mental health and wellness services to urban Indigenous individuals who are at risk of justice system recidivism. This position requires a strong understanding of Indigenous culture and history, as well as experience working with high-risk clientele experiencing concurrent issues.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide individualized support and advocacy to clients

- Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement program plans

- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community partners, government agencies, and service providers

- Participate in case conferences and other meetings to ensure continuity of care and support for clients

- Maintain accurate records and reports, as required

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Social Services, Indigenous Studies, or a related field

- Minimum 3 years of experience working in mental health or justice services environment

- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history

- Knowledge of the judicial system, Criminal Code, and other related federal and provincial statutes, and related court decisions regarding Indigenous persons

- Experience working with high-risk clientele experiencing concurrent issues

- Self-motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented setting

- Excellent case and file management skills, stress and time management skills; able to meet deadlines

- Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective verbal and listening communication skills

- Strong written and oral communication skills

- Group facilitation, team building and decision making skills; ability to problem solve and take initiative

- Effective crisis intervention skills; ability to provide individual support and advocacy

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including database applications

- A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance is a condition of employment
