SalaryThe estimated salary for this role ranges from $100,000 to $160,000 per year, depending on factors such as prior experience, location, business segment, and relevance of the candidate's skills to the role.
Job DescriptionAs the Director of Underwriting, you will work closely with the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) to manage underwriting operations, lead the Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) renewal process, assist in creating new insurance products, and ensure full compliance with underwriting activities.
This includes leading internal signoffs for all High Hazard industry segments across all lines of coverage, driving training initiatives for new hires and junior underwriters, creating and maintaining comprehensive underwriting training manuals, managing the Internal Peer Review Practice, and overseeing external audits.
You will also collaborate with the CUO on developing new capacity and products to address emerging market opportunities, support marketing and relationship-building efforts with insurers, and represent the company at industry association meetings and events.
Required Skills and QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of 10 years of technical experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) underwriting, with a strong background in compliance management and underwriting operations.
You should also have expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, experience with business plan creation and development, and strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Bilingualism is an asset, but not required, and experience in the construction industry or a related specialty would be highly valued.
