About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned commercial lines property and casualty underwriter to join our team at Aviva. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing program and account submissions, developing relationships with brokers and clients, and negotiating terms and pricing for profitable business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver exceptional service to brokers and customers.
  • Review medium to complex program and account submissions to ensure compliance with company guidelines and pricing strategy.
  • Negotiate terms and pricing for presentation to broker partners to secure long-term, sustainable business.
  • BUILD AND MAINTAIN BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS WITH BROKER PARTNERS AND CLIENTS by promoting Aviva products and services.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, including new business and renewal updates, and work towards implementing these initiatives.
  • Underwrite claims and liaise with claims personnel as required.
  • Work closely with the Actuarial and CAT team to determine pricing strategy and capacity deployment for your portfolio.
  • Participate in sector self-review and Broker audits or Head Office Central Technical Underwriting review process as required.
  • Support various strategic initiatives and projects, providing support to the Segment Leader as needed.
  • Help identify areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or other discrepancies, applying remediation strategies as appropriate.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of experience in the insurance industry as a commercial lines property and casualty underwriter.
  • Post-secondary education (Business or related discipline) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in underwriting Property and Casualty risks.
  • CIP/FCIP preferred.
  • Sales/negotiation skills, including an aptitude for face-to-face communication with brokers and clients.
  • Strong knowledge of property and casualty underwriting, pricing, and product in various segments.
  • Working knowledge of other functional areas, such as Claims, Risk Management, Accounting, etc.
  • Strong level of understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statutory constraints, and computer workflow procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, RTM, Commercial systems, and other related systems.
  • Ability to interact professionally with brokers and customers to develop long-term relationships.
  • Ability to work with internal business partners to deliver a great broker and customer experience.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and proactively pursue potential business opportunities with brokers and customers.
  • Ability to listen to broker and customer needs to effectively meet their requirements.
