Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Genetics Technologist I to join our team at U of A Hospital. As a key member of our Genetics and Genomics North unit, you will play a critical role in performing and interpreting routine and complex testing for various genetic conditions using molecular and cytogenetic techniques.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform and interpret testing for genetic conditions using molecular and cytogenetic techniques.
  • Participate in results entry, report generation, quality control, proficiency testing, and lab safety procedures.
  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies, and train students and fellows/residents.
  • Participate in accreditation activities and pre-analytical testing processes.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree plus advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics.
  • Active or eligible for registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
  • Work experience in a clinical Cytogenetics and/or clinical Molecular Genetics laboratory required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of the Genetics Technology Graduate Diploma Program or equivalent.
  • Current clinical laboratory experience and knowledge in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
