As a Negotiations and Policy Consultant with the City of Edmonton, you will play a key role in supporting collective bargaining activities and developing labour relations policies. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team of labour relations professionals and contribute to the development of policies that promote a positive and inclusive work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and provide input to collective bargaining activities, including research and preparation, building the mandate, forming proposals, negotiations, and documentation.
  • Research and support the development of labour relations and organizational policy in response to changes in organizational direction, agreements with unions, establishment of new case law, and legislative updates.
  • Support the development and delivery of labour relations education for clients.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies, tools, and resources to ensure that the Labour Relations team and clients make sound and defensible labour relations decisions.
  • Engage and consult with City and union partners on labour relations policy and program matters as needed.
  • Provide support related to policy grievances, collective bargaining agreement interpretations, and Labour Relations Board matters.
Requirements
  • Completion of a post-secondary education program in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Law, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of diversified and progressive human resources experience, including a minimum of 3 years of labour relations experience.
  • Experience providing labour relations advice to clients, managing grievance disputes, collective bargaining, developing labour relations policy, and/or providing interpretive advice regarding the application of collective agreements.
Assets
  • Experience with tracking and using labour relations analytics to inform business recommendations and decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including unions, clients, and colleagues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively support a diverse workforce in sensitive situations and deal with conflict.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief leadership on issues and decision points in a concise and effective manner.
  • Strong advocacy skills, enabling the ability to successfully represent the interests of the employer on contentious matters.
  • Proficiency in Google suite of applications (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Slides) and the ability to learn and adapt to evolving technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results with a respectful, inclusive, and service-minded approach.

Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent).
