The Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB) is seeking a skilled Community Health Worker to join our team in Eeyou Istchee. As a Community Health Worker, you will play a vital role in identifying the needs of the population and implementing community action programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and run prevention, intervention, and aftercare services and activities to reduce or prevent alcohol and drug addiction.
  • Collaborate with regional and local partners to reduce substance abuse and dependencies.
  • Organize and coordinate a range of prevention, intervention, and aftercare activities, including workshops, recreation activities, discussion groups, public awareness campaigns, and spiritual and cultural programs.
  • Participate in school programs and cultural events.
  • Participate actively in aftercare activities, including crisis intervention, counseling services, sharing circles, and support groups.

Requirements:

  • Diploma of college studies in social work techniques or social service techniques or another appropriate specialization.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in Cree and French is an asset.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate with groups and individuals.
  • Interest in working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Initiative, dynamism, and a sense of responsibility.
  • Proper knowledge of the community social environment.
  • Knowledge of Cree culture and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee.
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset.
