Job Summary

The Isaruit Inuit Arts Coordinator of Sewing Programs will oversee the management, planning, preparation, and delivery of the Sewing Programs for Inuit living in Ottawa.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement sewing programs that cater to the needs of Inuit communities in Ottawa.
  • Manage and maintain a collection of traditional Inuit sewing patterns and skills.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Inuit elders to ensure the preservation of traditional sewing knowledge.
  • Organize and coordinate sewing sessions, workshops, and events.
  • Manage the procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment for the sewing programs.
  • Develop and maintain a database of sewing patterns and skills.
  • Collaborate with the Programs Coordinator and Centre Coordinator to plan and execute larger events and activities.
  • Ensure the health and safety protocols are followed and maintained.
  • Provide excellent customer service and support to participants.
Requirements
  • Good knowledge of traditional Inuit sewing patterns and skills.
  • Good knowledge of Inuit sewing in the communities across Inuit Nunanga.
  • Ability to work with Inuit communities and elders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good computer skills in Word, Publishing, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication skills in English and Inuktitut, both verbal and written.
Working Conditions
  • Work at Isaruit's sewing rooms.
  • Work 30 hours per week with flexible hours.
  • Rate of pay will be $27 per hour starting pay, with immediate pay increases based on certifications and experience, up to $35 per hour.
