Child and Youth Mental Health Nurse

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Child and Youth Mental Health Program (CYMHP) inpatient service. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality care to children and youth with complex mental health issues.
Key Responsibilities- Lead patient care, including assessment of risk, mental status examination, crisis management, and establishment of effective therapeutic relationships.
- Implement and evaluate therapeutic interventions, and coordinate services with multidisciplinary teams.
- Offer mental health teaching to patients and families, and demonstrate knowledge of Ontario legislation guiding mental health care.
- Contribute to new and ongoing research, quality assurance projects, and provide consultation/liaison to caregivers and community agencies.
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
- Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI).
- Minimum one (1) year, acute child and youth inpatient mental health experience within the past five (5) years.
- Demonstrated skill in effective crisis management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of child and youth mental health services.
- Demonstrated knowledge of psychopharmacology.
- Demonstrated knowledge in developmental psychology and psychopathology.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the mental health act, substitute decisions act, health care consent act, Personal Health Information Protection Act.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and establish therapeutic relationships with clients and team members.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Evidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, and flexibility.
