- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the executive team to align engineering initiatives with business goals, managing priorities across product and technology roadmaps.
- Technical Oversight: Analyze and enhance the engineering team's productivity and velocity, addressing technical debt while implementing best practices for software development and hardware design.
- Resource Management: Expand internal engineering capacity by managing subcontractors and partnerships in hardware design, software development, and AI research.
- Product Development: Lead the productization of offshoot products that align with P&L goals, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, ensuring alignment between product management and engineering teams.
- Budget Management: Maintain oversight of departmental spending, including cloud hosting costs and third-party software.
- Technical Leadership: Significant experience in engineering leadership roles within scale-up environments, with a proven track record in software development, including cloud technologies.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Experience collaborating closely with product management teams, with a passion for leading high-performing engineering teams.
- Hands-on Expertise: Background in architecting and developing complex technical products that combine hardware, firmware, and software across a range of technologies. Experience with cloud computing, including the scalability, reliability, observability, and security of cloud-hosted systems. Working knowledge of services written in Go or Python, container orchestration frameworks like Kubernetes or Nomad, web technologies like Vue or React, serverless computing like Lambda, or similar.
- Outsourcing Experience: Demonstrated experience working with outsourced design firms for hardware and software projects.
- Adaptability: Comfortable in fast-paced startup or scale-up environments, with a willingness to tackle challenges head-on.
- Flexibility: Proven ability to manage products across multiple and varied markets.
- Familiarity with camera-based imaging, metrology, or time-of-flight laser mapping technologies.
- Background in machine learning, or computer vision.
- Experience in prop-tech or insur-tech sectors.
