Job Summary

The University of Waterloo seeks a skilled Stationary Engineer to join its facilities team. As a key member of the campus operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, cooling, and related plant equipment at all campus locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support strategic planning efforts addressing stewardship responsibilities and long-term sustainability of the University's campus, facilities, and infrastructure.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of oil and gas fired boilers, chillers, water softeners, air compressors, ammonia-based refrigeration units, and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Operate and monitor utility plants, building automation, fire systems, and elevator services.
  • Inspect and maintain building HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing system components.
  • Respond to emergency calls, including fire alarms.
  • Create reports of equipment conditions and requisition materials.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent and a minimum of an Ontario 3rd Class Operating Engineer Certificate.
  • Minimum of two years recent experience as an Ontario-certified 3rd Class Operating Engineer.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of oil and gas fired boilers, chillers, water softeners, air compressors, and ammonia-based refrigeration units and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Familiarity with boiler control and building automation systems.
  • Valid Ontario class 'G' driver's license or equivalent.
