About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Radiation Safety Specialist to join our team at the University Health Network. As a key member of our Radiation Safety Office, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare technical reports on radiation safety, including shielding reports, dose reconstruction, and environmental assessments.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations and policies, including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Regulations and provincial x-ray safety regulations.
  • Investigate and report on radiation safety incidents, and provide initial assistance to radiation safety needs and emergency responses.
  • Provide basic radiation protection information to staff in radiation work areas.
  • Act as a contact for internal radiation matters.
  • Assist in the management of a comprehensive electronic database of radiation safety activities and items.
  • Provide technical services to support radiation safety initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in a relevant scientific discipline, such as Health Physics, Medical Physics, or Radiation Biology.
  • Minimum two years of recent, related professional operational radiation safety experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Previous experience as a Nuclear Energy Worker or x-ray worker is an asset.
  • Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Therapy related education is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and regulations, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Acts and its regulations.
  • Ontario x-ray safety regulations are an asset.
  • Experience working in healthcare and a teaching hospital environment is an asset.
  • Ability to pay critical attention to detail and facilitate accuracy and completeness in the work process.
  • Excellent interpersonal, report writing, and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to organize work and set priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education.
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and database applications.
  • Experience with teaching and training of staff is preferred.
