Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer is a key leadership role that provides strategic direction to the management of financial operations and the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

This role requires a compassionate and hands-on leader to fulfill the responsibilities of the Chief Financial Officer.

Priorities

  1. Provides strategic direction and guidance to the organization through the identification of best practices, understanding the changing environment, seeking opportunities, and recommending solutions to ensure continued growth and sustainability.
  2. Guides and participates in strategic planning, budget planning, and policy and operational decisions with attention to federal and provincial laws and associated regulations.
  3. Covers all activities within the Finance Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, payroll, special projects accounting, financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.

Requirements

Traits and Expertise:

  • Minimum five (5) years experience working in a not-for-profit, government-funded organization in a finance management or executive leadership role.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting or related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of government and funder agency structures, procedures, and reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of financial planning, financial management, and accounting/financial reporting systems and procedures to manage the agency's fiscal and business affairs.
  • Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills to participate in the development of strategic and operational plans and policy recommendations.

Salary

$85,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
