About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Officer to join our team at WSP Canada. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees, clients, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance on health and safety matters to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate hazards and prevent accidents.
  • Develop and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify and address health and safety risks, and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Investigate incidents and near-miss events to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, clients, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and promote a positive image of the organization.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, best practices, and regulatory changes to ensure the organization remains compliant and competitive.
Requirements
  • Three or more years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Eligible for registration as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Risk and Safety Technician (CRST).
  • Experience working on large-scale projects, including engineered construction, civil works, geotechnical, demolition, environmental remediation, and nuclear construction.
  • Knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation, codes, practices, and standards.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective health and safety programs and policies.
  • Valid G license and reliable vehicle.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C certification (or ability to obtain within first 2 months of employment).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
