Role Overview

In this dynamic role, you will play a pivotal part in the District School Board of Niagara's Planning Department team. As a Planning Technician, your key responsibility will be to collect, organize, and analyze data to support enrolment projections, pupil yield analysis, school boundary planning, and facility capacity/utilization monitoring.

Responsibilities:
  • Track housing developments & pupil yield data by reviewing development plans, conducting field checks, and mapping data using GIS and tracking software.
  • Prepare pupil yield templates for enrolment projection support, ensuring accurate data visualization and technical analysis.
  • Organize and visualize enrolment data, resolving discrepancies and geocoding student addresses for precise mapping.
  • Maintain and update school boundary and spatial data in GIS systems, creating detailed maps and visual materials for planning projects and reports.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Planning, Geography, or related field from a recognized college or university combined with experience in a school board or urban planning environment involving GIS.
  • Certified Planning Technician (CPT) or Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in SPS+ Enrolment Projection and Planning Software, Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication and collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $85,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus comprehensive benefits package.
