Job Summary

The Communications Coordinator will play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of communications content for Oshawa Power. This includes coordinating the production of materials for public awareness campaigns, assisting with the development of work back schedules, and supporting internal communications and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the production of materials for public awareness campaigns, including brochures, posters, and advertisements.
  • Assist management with the development of work back schedules as required.
  • Support internal communications and engagement, including maintaining internal tools and partnering with the People and Culture department for organizational development events and social committee activities.
  • Obtain content, write text, prepare mock layouts, and coordinate graphic and print completion.
  • Complete purchase orders for management authorization for design work and print production.
  • Participate in and assist to organize events and activities, including trade shows and community events. Coordinate the development and production of related promotional materials.
  • Connect with businesses and community organizations regarding opportunities for support.
  • Maintain media and stakeholder contact lists.
  • Provide backup support to the Corporate Communications Specialist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Communications or Public Relations.
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Quick learner to understand the corporate environment and industry.
  • Knowledge of copywriting, digital and print communications, website design, online and email marketing, and graphic design principles.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, communication and graphics standards, related legislation (e.g., accessibility, privacy), and Canadian Press Standards.
  • Ability to write effectively in plain language for print, web, video, and e-newsletters.
  • Analytical and organizational skills to edit and proofread own and others' work, assess and respond appropriately to inquiries (referring issues to other staff and management as appropriate).
  • Communication skills to work with and facilitate communications messaging with program partners and other staff, and participate as an effective team member.
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office, desktop publishing software, social media/web-based communication tools, and website management software (e.g., WordPress, Canva, iMovie, Buffer, Adobe Premiere Pro).
