Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Fitter Welder 2 to join our team at FortisBC. As a Fitter Welder 2, you will be responsible for performing various operations in the shop and in the field to fabricate and install pressure piping and vessel systems used on gas transmission and distribution networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret engineering drawings and spool sheets to lay out jobs, fit up components, and prepare for welding.
  • Perform manual arc, gas metal arc, and oxy-fuel welding to fabricate pressure piping and vessel systems.
  • Pressure test completed assemblies and sub-assemblies to determine weld and joint integrity.
  • Fabricate non-pressure components and install pressure controlling devices, instrumentation, and control lines in prefabricated regulator vaults or similar assemblies.
  • Weld on transmission and distribution systems in the field, including hot taps, fire welds, and leak repair welds.
  • Qualify and re-qualify as a welder in accordance with Company welder qualification tests and CSA Standard Z662 for Gas Transmission and Distribution Systems.
Requirements
  • Journeyperson Welder Certificate of Qualification from the Industry Training Authority of BC (or equivalent from a recognized provincial training authority).
  • 5 years' experience welding pressure piping systems or pipeline welding.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driving License.
  • Safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations and practices on a sustained basis.
  • Ability to perform all operations in the shop and in the field necessary to fabricate and install pressure piping and vessel systems.
Working Conditions

The position is physically demanding, requiring considerable bending and lifting. You will be exposed to inclement weather.
