Job Summary

A Fitter/Welder 2 at FortisBC performs all operations in the shop necessary to fabricate pressure piping and vessel systems used on gas transmission and distribution networks. This includes interpretation of engineering drawings, spool sheets, etc., laying out of the job, fit up and welding preparation of all components and the pressure testing of completed assemblies and sub-assemblies to determine weld and joint integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings and spool sheets to lay out jobs and prepare components for welding
  • Perform welding operations using manual arc, gas metal arc, or oxy-fuel welding
  • Pressure test completed assemblies and sub-assemblies to determine weld and joint integrity
  • Fabricate non-pressure components and install pressure controlling devices and associated instrumentation and control lines
  • Weld on transmission and distribution systems within the scope of their certificate of competency

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Welder Certificate of Qualification from the Industry Training Authority of BC (or equivalent)
  • 5 years' experience welding pressure piping systems or pipeline welding
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driving License
  • Safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations and practices
  • Ability to perform all operations in the shop and in the field
