Job Summary:

The District of Saanich is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Youth Services team as a Program Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to work with youth in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, leading and engaging participants in activities that inspire their talents and interests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and oversee registered and drop-in programs and services for youth in our community
  • Lead and engage youth participants in activities that promote their development and well-being
  • Work cooperatively with youth participants, their families, and coworkers to ensure a positive and inclusive environment
  • Maintain the program site and implement safe and well-organized activities
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement programs that meet the needs of our community

Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Eight weeks of experience working with participants in a recreational or instructional setting
  • Satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than 6 months and Emergency First-Aid and CPR-C
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including weekends, after school, and evenings
  • Availability to work a minimum of 3 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth and ability to be inclusive and flexible
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of enthusiasm and personal motivation
  • Experience working with children and youth with a wide variety of interests, unique needs, and neurodiversity
