Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide respiratory therapy services to patients, including therapeutic, diagnostic, and technical interventions.
  • Develop and implement individualized respiratory care plans, taking into account patient needs, preferences, and goals.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient care, including communication with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Conduct respiratory assessments, including spirometry, pulse oximetry, and other diagnostic tests, to identify respiratory problems and develop treatment plans.
  • Administer medications, oxygen therapy, and other respiratory treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Provide education and training to patients, families, and healthcare staff on respiratory care and disease management.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance respiratory care services and patient outcomes.
Requirements
  • Current registration with the Manitoba Association of Respiratory Therapists (MARRT) is required.
  • Recent and related clinical experience is preferred.
  • Entry-to-practice academic credential in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited Canadian program or a MARRT-approved equivalent is required.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other disciplines and demonstrate professional judgment and initiative.
  • Knowledge of the physiological, social, cultural, and economic aspects of patient care.
  • Ability to organize and complete assignments with a minimum of supervision.
  • Willingness to adapt to new concepts, techniques, and best practices in the academic and clinical fields of healthcare.
Work Environment

This position requires working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, with exposure to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress, and potentially aggressive and/or agitated clients/staff/visitors.

The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, and may be required to occasionally work extended hours.
