Mission of the Role

Your primary objective as a Registered Practical Nurse is to deliver safe, patient-centered care with a focus on excellence. You will prioritize meeting the needs of our clients and the most vulnerable populations they serve. As part of our team, you are expected to be flexible and willing to accept last-minute shifts while negotiating a work schedule that aligns with your availability and interests.

Daily Responsibilities

As an RPN, your daily responsibilities will impact the following ways:
• Providing nursing care within the scope of the RPN practice
• Utilizing sound nursing principles to ensure excellent care is delivered to all residents in assigned home area(s)
• Ensuring safekeeping of controlled drugs and narcotics
• Creating a safe and comfortable environment that respects residents' privacy, dignity, autonomy, independence, and personal values and lifestyle
• Participating in care planning and supporting residents to meet their goals by adhering to their care plan
• Exercising sound judgment and not hesitating to engage charge nurse for support
• Collaborating with all stakeholders to foster an atmosphere conducive to optimal care. This includes residents, family members, multidisciplinary team members, unregulated healthcare providers, etc.
• Embodying a 'life learner' attitude and participating in in-service programs, conferences, seminars, etc.
• Other duties as assigned

What You Have

To excel in this role, you will need:
• Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the Provincial health regulatory College
• Current First Aid with CPR
• Previous experience with geriatric population preferred; knowledge of behavioural support programs, dementia care, and rehabilitation an asset
• Proven experience in leading unregulated care providers
• Basic computer proficiency to be able to use onsite documentation tools
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Knowledge of the Long Term Care Act, Program Standards for Long Term Care, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Narcotic Control Act (Canada), Coroners Act, College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice, and other pertinent Federal, Provincial, and Municipal Statues which influence the operation of the Nursing Home and more specifically the nursing department.

Compensation

You can expect to earn $35-$45 per hour, with possibilities for higher rates based on your experience and qualifications.
