About the Role

The Plant Maintenance Specialist at Holcim will be responsible for performing a combination of tasks ranging from housekeeping activities, operation of fixed and mobile equipment used in the production of aggregates, but predominantly maintenance tasks on the equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety:
    • Promote a safety culture through engagement with employees, joint health and safety committee, subcontractors, and suppliers, implementation and maintenance of local and regional initiatives with an objective of "zero" safety incidents.
    • Promote safety policies, processes, and review procedures to ensure that the site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and regulatory guidelines.
    • Ensure that the plant and surrounding site is kept safe, presentable, and functional.
    • Understand near miss and hazard investigation processes, motor vehicle accidents, first aid, medical incidents, lost time injuries, daily safety huddles, risk assessments, confined space, and work at heights permits.
  • Equipment:
    • Complete cleanup assignments using a skid steer and/or hand-held tools; working safely around moving and/or rotating equipment while using the required personal protective safety equipment.
    • Perform pre-operational checks and operate assigned mobile equipment as trained and directed.
  • Environmental Management:
    • Ensure that the site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and regulatory guidelines.
    • Be aware of environmentally sensitive areas and be alert to correct environmental problems that may develop in the assigned work area.
    • Capable of working in diverse indoor/outdoor environments, which would include: dust, hot, cold, and noise.
  • Maintenance:
    • Work in a team environment with other co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
    • Perform daily inspections as part of our preventative maintenance program.
    • Assist in repairing broken or malfunctioning equipment.
    • Assist with plant repairs as needed.
    • Work at heights when required.
  • Other:
    • Perform other duties as assigned to assist in the efficient operation of the plant and site.

Requirements

  • Education & Work Experience:
    • Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
    • Industrial/mining plant operational experience.
    • Heavy equipment operation experience an asset.
    • Basic welding and fitting is preferred.
    • Minimum 3 years experience in maintenance.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Specific mobile equipment training.
    • Specific modules - surface miner training.
    • Mechanical aptitude.
    • Computer literacy an asset.
    • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Job-Specific Competency Profile (Lominger):

  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
    • Working outdoors and varied temperatures and weather conditions.
    • Working indoors in varied conditions (ie. hot, noisy, dusty).
    • Rotating shifts, overtime, and weekends when required.
    • Mobility through all areas of the plant required, including stairs and ladders.
    • Regular bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting less than 50 lbs.
    • Working at heights and confined spaces.
