Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Optical Design Engineer to join our team at Wyvern, a rapidly growing space company in Western Canada. As an Optical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing the optical payloads of the future.

Your primary responsibility will be to use your expertise in optical design software, such as Ansys Zemax OpticStudio, to develop and refine detailed optical system designs. This includes stray light analysis, baffle design, and supporting a structural, thermal, and optical performance (STOP) analysis workflow with imaging performance evaluation.

You will also support the assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) of optical payloads, including developing AIT plans, procuring test equipment, and performing telescope assembly, subsystem assembly, and overall system integration of components.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in optical engineering, optics, physics, or equivalent;
  • At least 2 years of experience in optical design and engineering, encompassing some or all of the following: stray light analysis and baffle design; radiometry analysis and detector performance; optical alignment and test methods;
  • Strong knowledge of optical design and assembly principles and practices, including key image quality and spectral performance metrics;
  • Familiarity with Python and basic mathematical or system modeling tools;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical people;
