Job Summary

The Strategic Data Governance Leader will oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive data management policies and procedures to ensure the quality, integrity, and security of our credit portfolio. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement and develop strategic initiatives to drive business growth.

About the Role
  • Provides independent review and adjudication of credit applications and transactions within established credit limits, making recommendations and escalating as required.
  • Maintains the credit quality of assigned portfolios within the Bank's risk tolerance, policies, and procedures, ensuring alignment with financing guidelines.
  • Supports credit adjudication operations and initiatives, providing training and guidance to teams and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, informing business decisions and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Negotiates with industry contacts to gather competitive insights and best practices, enhancing our market position.
  • Liaises with various committees and task forces, contributing expertise and influencing key decisions.
  • Delivers credit coaching, training, and support to direct teams and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure the effectiveness of risk management controls, analysis, and monitoring at both transactional and portfolio levels.
  • Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to achieve business and financial objectives.
  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve complex issues, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Develops and manages comprehensive information management systems, driving process improvements and enhanced analytics.
  • Integrates information from multiple sources to streamline processes, enhance analysis, and optimize reporting.
  • Defines business requirements for analytics and reporting, ensuring data insights inform business decision-making.
  • Breaks down complex problems, analyzing data and information to provide valuable insights and recommendations.
  • Leads change management programs, assessing readiness, planning, executing, evaluating, and sustaining initiatives.
  • Supports credit due diligence activities for bank acquisitions or integration.
  • Reviews and communicates decisions on credit transactions, providing clear rationale that can be explained to customers.
  • Remains up-to-date on economic and market developments within the portfolio, using this knowledge to inform decision-making and credit risk policies.
  • Approves exceptions according to established policy and standards.
  • Monitors the credit portfolio through transaction review and approval, ensuring compliance with lending policies and procedures.
  • Provides credit risk coaching and advice to sales and service employees, enhancing their awareness of risk, policy, and transaction structuring.
  • Gathers and formats data into regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards.
  • Monitors and tracks performance, addressing any issues that arise.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 9 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Credit qualifications and associated credit knowledge and skills according to established qualification standards.
  • Expert knowledge of banking products and services.
  • Expert knowledge of credit portfolio management policies, procedures, and financing guidelines.
  • Technical leadership skills, viewed as a thought leader for innovation.
  • Able to manage ambiguity and uncertainty.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this role is $103,500. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the number of hours regularly worked. BMO Financial Group offers a comprehensive total compensation package, including performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
