Job DescriptionThis is an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team on a full-time, 6-month contract to hire basis. The contract may be renewable based on project outcomes.
As an Electrical/Electronics Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our technology by developing next-generation laser and optical scanning systems. Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing electronics for control of remote sensing equipment and creating electrical interfaces with devices like amplifiers, lasers, and environmental controllers.
- Developing power systems for in-field and lab operations, including DC-DC, AC-DC, breakers, monitoring, and diagnostics.
- Managing system timing, timing generators, and control mechanisms to ensure precise operation.
- Designing electrical interfaces for and between modules and sub-systems.
- Assembling and testing electronics, sub-systems, cables, and connectors.
- Designing, developing, and maintaining embedded software and firmware for various applications.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Analog electronics knowledge, including power supplies, filters, and monitoring.
- Digital electronics expertise, including embedded microcontrollers.
- PCB design and fabrication skills for electronic boards and embedded sub-systems.
- Communication bus experience, including UART, I2C, SPI, and Ethernet/IP.
- Familiarity with electrical test equipment and methodologies.
- Knowledge of hardware timing, including precision clocks/oscillators, triggers, and timed events.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, C, and C++.
- FPGA development experience, including Xilinx tools and platforms.
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related field, with advanced degrees or certifications a plus.
- 5-10 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in a testing or R&D environment.
- Analytical abilities to analyze complex data sets, identify issues, and develop solutions.
- Excellent communication skills to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to resolving technical challenges.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a collaborative team.
This position is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. A valid Canada or USA passport is required.
