Workers Compensation Specialist

The Municipal Group of Companies, a leading heavy civil construction, mining, and environmental services organization in the Atlantic Provinces, is seeking a skilled Workers' Compensation Generalist to join its team from its head office in Bedford, Nova Scotia.
Job Summary:
The Workers' Compensation Generalist will perform administrative and complex work involved in the management of Workers' Compensation claims, interacting with internal and external contacts, and exercising judgment and initiative in response to verbal and written communications and in interpreting and applying company-wide policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and submit Workers' Compensation forms in a timely and accurate manner
- Maintain records, statistics, and prepare reports to identify areas for improvement
- Participate in the review and evaluation of company policies and procedures related to workers' compensation and return to work
- Establish early contact with injured employees to provide support and understanding, promoting a positive relationship between the company and the injured employee
- Maintain communication with supervisors and safety personnel throughout the duration of the claim and in return-to-work planning
- Assist injured employees in returning to work as soon as possible, safely and effectively
- Collaborate with Workers' Compensation and treatment providers to develop rehabilitation and return-to-work plans for injured employees
- Maintain communication with medical service providers, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and physicians
- Monitor the progress of injured employees' capacity to return to work
- Ensure injured employees modify their work practices to include regular positional changes, rest breaks, and other recommendations provided by treatment providers
- Represent the company at off-site case conferences, job site visits, and other meetings
Requirements:
- College or university diploma or certificate in Disability Management, and three to five years' experience in a workers' compensation position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to interpret and apply the relevant Provincial Workers' Compensation Acts
- Experience working with the Workers' Compensation Board of Nova Scotia
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Familiarity with and ability to interpret Functional Abilities Reports and/or Functional Capacity Evaluations
- Strong management, planning, and leadership skills
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management and project management skills
- Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
