Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Substance Use Clinician to join our team at Fraser Health. The successful candidate will work with clients and families affected by mental illness and substance use disorders, providing a range of services including intake, screening, and assessment, treatment recommendations and plans, and follow-up support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide client and family-centered care through a trauma-informed approach and evidence-informed practice
  • Assess client needs and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
  • Provide first-level intervention and support until formal treatment or further assessment can be conducted
  • Develop and implement recovery-oriented treatment options and plans through collaboration with clients and natural supports
  • Facilitate client utilization of appropriate community services and rehabilitative programs
  • Provide referrals to appropriate community treatment alternatives and services
  • Utilize available community resources to develop supportive and rehabilitative programs for clients and their families
  • Provide education to clients and families in accordance with theoretical models grounded in evidence-based practice
  • Maintain client records and provide input to Coordinator and Manager
  • Participate actively and collaboratively in team planning, team meetings, committees, and/or corporate initiatives
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in an applicable social or health sciences program such as Counselling Psychology or Social Work
  • Two years' recent related experience working with clients and families with, or affected by, mental illness and substance use disorders
  • Eligible for registration with relevant/applicable professional association
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Punjabi/Hindi and English, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented approach; concurrent disorders; addictions and addictions counselling
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of relevant Acts such as Mental Health Act, Freedom of Information Act, pertinent regulations, policies and procedures, and other statutory duties
  • Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and professional practice guidelines for the treatment of various disorders
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing within a diverse and multicultural community
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals, groups, and interdisciplinary professionals through understanding the frameworks of other disciplines
