About the Role


We are seeking a highly motivated Purchasing Specialist to join our team at Magna in Newmarket. As a Purchasing Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the procurement process for various programs, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of components.


Key Responsibilities



  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating pricing and terms for components required for production.
  • Manage the Approved Supplier list, evaluating supplier performance and making recommendations for changes as needed.
  • Prepare and present quotations to program teams, ensuring all necessary information is provided for supplier selection.
  • Evaluate quotes received from suppliers, comparing prices and quality to ensure the best value for the company.
  • Issue purchase orders and obtain required approvals using the electronic purchase order system.
  • Notify suppliers of new business, set up and attend engineering and quality reviews, and evaluate the supply base of suppliers for capacity, quality, responsiveness, and competitiveness.
  • Maintain and update procedures, work instructions, and forms for Purchasing as required for ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949 certification.
  • Report purchasing issues, requirements, obstacles, and cost savings to management and program teams.
  • Analyze piece cost and tool cost variances and negotiate pricing with suppliers where necessary.
  • Manage and reconcile issues of quality, timing, and cost/product changes between the company and suppliers.
  • Responsible for preventing open commercial issues with suppliers, anticipating, identifying, and leading resolution of commercial issues that arise.
  • Support internal/external audit efforts regarding ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949 certification for remote site locations (Group Office).
  • Ensure employees work in the manner consistent with the organization's established objectives and targets, utilizing protective equipment, devices, measures, and procedures as promulgated by state and federal regulations.

Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Business Administration or related field or combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Three (3) years' experience in purchasing or procurement position preferred.
  • Working knowledge of material conversion for production, including cost, timing, suitability, feasibility of various materials, tooling, and manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to manage, negotiate cost and timing with suppliers.
  • Strong communication skills: verbal and written.
  • Strong technical, time management, organizational, and planning skills with attention to detail, including ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to work efficiently in a dynamic fast-paced work environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word & Excel.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
