Job Summary:

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Program Services Caseworker - Drop In Worker to join our team. As a key member of our Residential Services team, you will provide critical support to homeless and street-involved youth, empowering them to achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment for drop-in clients, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
  • Develop and implement programming, clubs, and schedules to engage and support drop-in clients.
  • Connect clients with housing, health, and social services, both internally and externally.
  • Build relationships with community members, agencies, and co-workers to enhance service delivery and outcomes.
  • Provide crisis counseling, one-on-one support, and advocacy to clients as needed.
  • Conduct regular facility security and maintenance checks to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  • Collaborate with the Program Services Coordinator to supervise clients and ensure their needs are met.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client documentation, forms, and logbook entries.
  • Facilitate the commencement of RRTIP for outreach clients.
  • Enter data into HIFIS and compile statistics for reporting purposes.
  • Manage donations, track statistics, and respond to inquiries about the Drop-in Centre.

Service Responsibilities:

  • Promote positive attitudes and support towards clients experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
  • Empower clients to work towards their goals and provide advocacy as needed.
  • Represent The Salvation Army and its clients at community meetings.

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to The Salvation Army's values, philosophy, and policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and evaluation sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to The Salvation Army's policies and procedures.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a permanent, full-time position based on 84 hours biweekly.
  • Shifts and working conditions will be designated by the Program Services Coordinator.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • College diploma in Social Sciences or a related field.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Preference given to candidates with experience working with youth homelessness.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Mental Health and Addictions.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of anti-racism, anti-oppression, and equity principles.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Problem-solving skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal and time management skills.
