Medical Director, Indigenous Health Leadership Position

The Medical Director, Indigenous Health Leadership Position is a key role within Island Health that requires a collaborative and proactive approach to ensuring high-quality services. As a co-leader, you will work closely with others to drive continuous quality improvement and ensure efficient, effective, and integrated service delivery across Island Health sites.

Main responsibilities of this position include:

  1. Leadership: Co-lead and oversee activities to ensure program service delivery is efficient, effective, and integrated across Island Health sites; link with appropriate Departmental Medical Leaders to address matters of physician governance, including professional medical practice issues.
  2. Operations & Quality: Establish processes and structures to engage physicians and staff in continuous quality improvement of service delivery; monitor program budget and performance jointly with co-leader, and make course corrections when necessary; ensure appropriate investigation and resolution of program-related Patient Safety Learning System and Patient Care Quality Office events.
  3. Change Management: Co-develop and implement change management plans to engage and support physicians and staff through change.
  4. Planning: Assess, monitor, and anticipate program resource needs and work with medical leaders and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within available resources.

Additional responsibilities include working collaboratively in a co-leadership model with assigned Director(s), collaborating with Island Health Community Medical Directors to move health care initiatives forward for First Nation communities, and representing the Indigenous health portfolio at HAMAC.
