We are seeking a skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our team at Homewood Health, a leading provider of mental health and addiction services. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients with addictions and mental health diagnoses.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care to patients with addictions and/or mental health diagnoses
- Contribute to fluctuating patient care needs according to CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, and program philosophy
- Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments
- Ensure necessary clinical assessments are initiated following admission and at various times
- Engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual team members as appropriate
- Act as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse as needed
- Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences
- Current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing
- Up to 6 months of experience in general nursing practice preferred
- Current CPR certification; CPMHN (C) would be an asset
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA), documentation standards (CNO), and privacy legislation (PHIPA)
- Experience working with patients who have a broad range of addiction and psychiatric diagnoses preferred
- Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and deal with acutely ill patients
- Strong interpersonal skills and respectful communication style with patients, families, and staff
- Previous training in mental health nursing, boundaries, suicide awareness, and medication administration is an asset
- Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
- Proficient computer skills and comfortable learning new systems
- Flexibility with respect to work schedule
- Knowledge of CBT/DBT and experience with group facilitation is an asset
