About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child and Family Wellbeing Support Worker to join our team at Native Child and Family Services of Toronto. As a key member of our team, you will provide holistic and culturally relevant support to community members based on their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide fair, respectful, and culturally relevant service to Indigenous children and families, consistent with our organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Participate with community members in researching and providing various community programs, resources, and services for case management needs of families.
  • Assist Child and Family Wellbeing Workers with placement of children by accompanying them and handling instrumental and supportive tasks.
  • Assist CFWB workers with home visits, when required.
  • Gather documentation and information for CFWB workers, when required.
  • Arrange transportation for children and families to attend visits, appointments, or court. Alternatively, may transport children to visits or appointments.
  • Provide childcare assistance during sessions with clients, when necessary.
  • Ensure all documents are continuously up-to-date, including client files, case notes, and other pertinent documents.
  • Intervene in crisis situations where risk to children exists and initiate timely response to ensure the safety of the child.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as Child and Youth or Social Service Worker.
  • 1 year of experience working with Indigenous peoples in a social services setting would be an asset.
  • Valid Ontario 'G' class driver's license, daily access to a vehicle, and ability to work flexible hours.
  • Produce a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Experience in counselling, case management, file maintenance, and statistical reporting.
  • Knowledge of First Nation, Inuit, and Metis culture and traditions, and urban Indigenous family dynamics.
  • Familiarity with the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, and child protection processes and responsibilities.
  • Strong planning, organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills.
  • Professionalism, initiative, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Team player who enjoys being in a supportive role.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to integrating our organization's mission and values into practice, service, and relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity, and build strong internal relationships.
  • NCFST requires all employees, contractors, students, and volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, absent of a valid medical exemption or other reasonable consideration pursuant to the Human Rights Code of Ontario.
