We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisor to join our team at Native Child and Family Services of Toronto. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and clinical direction to our Resources and Permanency Planning services team.
Key Responsibilities- Team Supervision: Provide direct supervision to Resources and Permanency Planning services team, including hiring, determining work priorities, assigning cases, providing direction and training, setting performance standards, and conducting performance appraisals.
- Recruitment and Approval: Oversee the recruitment and approval process of Foster, Kin, and Customary Care and Adoptive homes, monitor and review all case recordings, documents, plans of care, court documents, and in-care resources home files.
- Adoption Processes: Oversee adoption processes and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Licensing Standards: Oversee licensing standards are met within our Resource Homes.
- Community Partnerships: Build constructive working relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities in developing recruitment and placement strategies and plans for children in care.
- Training and Education: Develop and facilitate training and public education to Native Child and Family Services of Toronto staff, foster parent groups, and Indigenous communities.
- Clinical Supervision: Provide individual clinical supervision and direction to assigned workers.
- Case Management: Review various case documents, including case recordings, plans of care, cultural plans, court documents, and home opening documents.
- Decision-Making: Provide information and recommendations to the Director of Child and Family Wellbeing regarding case management decisions and plans for cases of a particularly contentious, sensitive, complex, or high-risk nature.
- Team Development: Promote excellence in the delivery of client service, promote a team approach, and facilitate the empowerment of workers in decisions affecting their working conditions and/or professional development.
- Policy Development: Participate as a member of NCFST's Service Supervisory Team in the development and implementation of team strategies, visions, and priorities, and provide input into the development of NCFST policies and procedures.
- Partnerships and Committees: Initiate and maintain effective partnership relationships with various internal/external resources/services, lead and/or participate on a number of NCFST and community committees.
- Standby Duty: Provide back-up and standby duty on a regular basis, rotating with other Supervisors.
- Policies and Procedures: Ensure NCFST's policies, procedures, and standards, as well as child welfare legislation, are adhered to through regular meetings with staff, advising staff of changes in policies and practices, discussing current unit activities and concerns, etc.
- Education: BSW or M.S.W. from an accredited university and a minimum of three years relevant experience in a supervisory role.
- Police Record Check: Pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
- Knowledge of Legislation: Extensive knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Ministry guidelines, NCFST policies, and procedures.
- Permanency Planning and Adoption: Extensive knowledge of the requirements for permanency planning and adoption practice, Child, Youth and Family Services Act, and Ministry guidelines.
- Child Development and Family Dynamics: In-depth experiential and theoretical knowledge related to the practice of child development and family dynamics.
- Computer Applications: Knowledge of computer applications with demonstrated proficiency in the use of Frontline Case Management System.
- Indigenous Cultures: Knowledge of Indigenous cultures in an urban environment.
- Supervisory and Leadership Skills: Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills with a strong emphasis on a balanced participatory and action-oriented work/management style.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Conflict Resolution: Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts, elicit cooperation, negotiate, and to collaborate.
- Problem Analysis and Decision-Making: Competence in problem analysis, judgement, and decision-making, especially under difficult circumstances with minimum information and rigid time constraints.
- Time Management: Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing work demands and to manage a high volume of work.
- Consultative and Presentation Skills: Consultative and presentation skills to liaise effectively with community resources and services.
