Job Description

Lumentum Canada is seeking a highly skilled Reliability Engineer to join our team in Ottawa. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and durability of our leading-edge optical and photonic telecommunication products.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement product qualification and reliability testing strategies that meet customer requirements, industry standards, and market expectations.
  2. Design and oversee qualification and reliability testing on raw materials, sub-components, and finished products, working closely with test engineers and technicians to ensure timely completion.
  3. Predict failure rates and availability for new products, applying engineering judgment to select appropriate tests and measurement parameters.
  4. Analyze data and report findings, identifying issues and opportunities for improvement, and monitoring and reporting on the field reliability of deployed products.
  5. Perform reliability risk assessments for quality excursions, applying physics of failure, acceleration modeling, and experimentation.
  6. Coordinate third-party testing with external labs, requiring limited travel to set up and operate equipment.
Requirements:
  1. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to scrutinize and interpret literature, reports, and data.
  2. Knowledge of statistics and data analysis, with the ability to provide meaningful recommendations.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to discuss issues with higher management and customers.
  4. Graduation from a BSc. or MSc. program in electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, or a related field.
Advantageous Qualifications:
  • Previous work experience in reliability, product qualification, failure analysis, design engineering, process engineering, or compliance functions.
  • Knowledge of electronics, optics, and optical communication systems, as well as electrical and optical manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with optical and electrical measurement equipment, and knowledge of IEC, JEDEC, and Telcordia Qualification Standards.
