Reliability Engineer

Lumentum Canada is seeking a highly skilled Reliability Engineer to join our team in Ottawa. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and durability of our leading-edge optical and photonic telecommunication products.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement product qualification and reliability testing strategies that meet customer requirements, industry standards, and market expectations.
- Design and oversee qualification and reliability testing on raw materials, sub-components, and finished products, working closely with test engineers and technicians to ensure timely completion.
- Predict failure rates and availability for new products, applying engineering judgment to select appropriate tests and measurement parameters.
- Analyze data and report findings, identifying issues and opportunities for improvement, and monitoring and reporting on the field reliability of deployed products.
- Perform reliability risk assessments for quality excursions, applying physics of failure, acceleration modeling, and experimentation.
- Coordinate third-party testing with external labs, requiring limited travel to set up and operate equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to scrutinize and interpret literature, reports, and data.
- Knowledge of statistics and data analysis, with the ability to provide meaningful recommendations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to discuss issues with higher management and customers.
- Graduation from a BSc. or MSc. program in electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, or a related field.
- Previous work experience in reliability, product qualification, failure analysis, design engineering, process engineering, or compliance functions.
- Knowledge of electronics, optics, and optical communication systems, as well as electrical and optical manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with optical and electrical measurement equipment, and knowledge of IEC, JEDEC, and Telcordia Qualification Standards.
